    Kiki Bertens Carries History at 2019 Open Madrid Event

    Kiki Bertens successfully carved out a new history at the 2019 Madrid Open event. The Dutchman became the first woman to win a trophy without losing a set. Bertens fantastically got rid of former world number one Simona Halep 6-4, 6-4, yesterday.

    For the achievements that he achieved, Bertens's ranking at WTA (women tennis association) will rise. Currently, Bertens is ranked 7th in the world and will rise to 4th place in the world shifting Angelique Kerber. Announcement of WTA ranking changes will be announced on Monday (13/5).

    With this positive result, Bertens will become the first Dutch female tennis player to be ranked 4th in the world. He beat the record of his compatriot Betty Stove, who was only able to be ranked 5th in the world. The success of Bertens is predicted to continue at the French Open on May 26 to June 9.
    Because history proves that. In 2013 Serena Williams beat Maria Sharapova in the Madrid Open final, then did it again in the French Open final one month later. In 2014 Maria Sharapova successfully lifted the Madrid Open trophy after in the final defeating Simona Halep. Furthermore, Sharapova again won the French Open title after the final also defeated Halep.

    Bertens found a safe but effective way to attack Halep from the baseline. Instead of trying to hit the ball past Halep's roadrunner, Bertens tried to hit him. He maximized his topspin on his forehand and sent high and deep balls.

    Bertens's hard punches made Halep get confused. As a result, Halep made a number of surprising mistakes. When Bertens did not push Halep back, he took it with one of the best drop shots in tennis. Bertens broke serve in the first set with a forehand, he broke Halep's rhythm with his drop backhand.

    Bertens' unexpected shot went well so he could give the ball a lot of net clearance. Bertens scored 25 wins overall, while Halep was only 9. Even Bertens's overhead was shanked for long, finally hitting Halep and winning it. But at 6-4, 2-0, nerves began to creep into Bertens's arm.

    Bertens tried hard to answer those questions. The service made the difference, and that saved him from the rise of Halep. Bertens produced 58% of his first service, but he won 76% of those points. Bertens has a very simple movement, but he can hit all types of services released by Halep.

    "I think I played very solid today," Bertens told tennis.com. "I thought at the beginning I was still looking for my game a little, but the rest of the game I played was solid, really smart, and I was just going to make a shot," Bertens continued.

    "I'm really happy. I think after each title, you feel something of course. Sometimes a lot of emotions, sometimes it's real happiness. I'm very proud of this week," said Bertens.

    While for Halep, the defeat of Bertens diminished his ambition to again lift the Madrid Open trophy like the 2016 and 2017. The 27-year-old Romanian is now ranked 3rd in the world, not too many comments. Even so, he admitted that Bertens played well. "I could not return the service, he (Bertens) played well," said Halep. { SOURCE }
