    The winner of the FWA is determined by voting conducted by journalists in the UK. From the results of the vote, Sterling won 62% of the vote, beating Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and his team-mate at Manchester City, Bernardo Silva.

    "It has been chosen as the 2019 Player of the Year by our members, and with an overwhelming majority, clearly acknowledged the contribution of a player for one season, but also acknowledged the big impact," said FWA chairman Carrie Brown.

    Criticism of Journalistic Work
    FWA's decision - which involved journalists as the main element - in the polls that put Sterling as the best player, seems to have drawn attention. Because the relationship between sterling and some media in the UK is not so smooth.

    This year Sterling has criticized British media, the Daily Mail, for the preaching of those he considered racist. Sterling even uploaded his opinion to social media amid the issue of racism that plagued the Premier League this season.

    For the category of female footballers, the title of the best player falls into the hands of Nikita Parris. The player who joined from Everton women's football club in 2015 was considered the best player after contributing 19 goals and seven assists to help City finish second behind Arsenal. { SOURCE }
