Canelo Bidik Sergey Kovalev Degree in Light Weight
Canelo Alvarez wants to move forward after successfully defeating Daniel Jacobs on the hunt for the middle-class title at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, USA, Friday (03/05/2019) local time or Saturday morning WIB. Canelo not only challenged Callum Smith in the middle class, but Canelo also aimed at light-weight champions.
Over the past few years, Alvarez has openly discussed the possibility of moving to the 175-pound class or lightweight class, to get the chance to face the current WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev.
With ten fights remaining in a record-breaking deal with DAZN, Alvarez has plenty of time to ride lightly and make the switch to light heavyweight.
However, it seems that Alvarez might want to rise faster than expected, which is not worrying about De La Hoya.
"If he gets a lot of punches, then I will worry about that," De La Hoya said. "But he doesn't. Even at the gym, he knows how to move his head, he knows how to use his defense."
"I am not worried (changing classes). But when you are in this type of fight, you never know. One fight can make you feel old overnight."
Oscar De La Hoya also insisted there were plenty of options for Canelo Alvarez's next opponent after his victory over Daniel Jacobs. "There are many options for him. Callum Smith, (Sergey) Kovalev. He has many choices."
One thing about Canelo is that he never avoids challenges. Canelo's desire is to unite all the belts. "Canelo has also expressed interest in fighting at Wembley Stadium in England (or) Dallas. "The trilogy with GGG is also possible," concluded De La Hoya.
Canelo added to his middle-class belt collection after beating Jacobs with a score of 115-113, 115-113 and 116-112. Now, Canelo (52-1-2, 35 KO) holds the WBA (Super) middle class, WBC, The Ring, linear, and IBobs belts belonging to Jacobs. { SOURCE }
